By Mike Spieker | SpiekerPromotions@gmail.com HARWOOD, ND (July 26) - After racing around home the previous weekend, the Lee Grosz Racing team hit the road last week to compete in races in Nebraska and Iowa The weekend got off to a rocky start Thursday night at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska.
“We started 14th and were passing for seventh when we got pinched by a guy going down the back stretch,” said Lee “He hit my left front, which put me into the wall. The contact popped the left front tire and bent the front axle so we were finished for the night.” Lee was credited with a disappoint 18th place finish. Friday night the team went northeast to Denison, Iowa for a night of Nebraska 360/MSTS-sanctioned racing at Crawford County Speedway. Lee began the night by picking up a win in heat race number two. “Getting the win in the heat really gave us some confidence,” he said. “We came from fifth and made a last lap pass for the lead to get the win so we knew we had a good car.” “We redrew a five and being the high-point guy kind of put us at a disadvantage for the feature. After starting fifth we got up to third pretty quick and just as I pass Seth Brahmer for second the yellow came out. By that time the rubber was starting to come in so it was follow-the-leader after that and we had to settle for third.” The Wesmar/J&J crew wrapped up the weekend Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway. After winning the heat, Lee started 20th in the feature and wheeled his way up to a 13th place finish. “We improved the car every time it hit the racetrack so I guess we can’t complain,” continued Lee. The main goal Saturday night was to learn a few things about the car and the track for the biggest weekend of the year coming up in early August; the Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals. “Knoxville is a whole different animal. All season long you can have a baseline setup that you use at almost every track you go to, but with Knoxville you just have to throw all of that out the window. With every track I’ve been to, there isn’t one remotely close to the setup or driving style Knoxville demands. We hit on a few things setup-wise on Saturday and we are going to go back there this weekend and see if we can get a little better.” UPCOMING EVENTS: July 29: Jackson Motorplex - Bob Wieskus Classic: $2,000 to win July 30: Knoxville Raceway Aug. 4-6: 26th Annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals
