NEW RICHMOND, WI (July 12) - Last weekend the Hi-10 Sports/Wesmar Racing Engines team was back in action at the legendary Cedar Lake Speedway with the UMSS 360 Winged Sprint Cars. The two-day event kicked off Friday night with the 24th annual Earl Kouba Memorial. Lee was the 2008 champion of the prestigious event and looked to become just the third driver to repeat as he started the 25-lap race from the pole.
"I got the jump at the start and got out front right away," said Lee. "Being up front like that kind of makes you nervous where to run on the track. I started at the bottom, but eventually worked my way to the top and it felt pretty good up their too." Lee had built up a comfortable advantage over the field when the caution flew on lap 12, bunching the field back up. The Harwood, ND driver picked up right where he left off on the restart, however, as he drove away from the pack and collected the $2,000 payday. "The car was perfect. My guys gave me a great car and that just makes my job a lot easier," said Lee. Saturday night was a new night but a good redraw after the heat and challenge race put Grosz back on the front row for the main event. "Luckily we got into the redraw again on the second night. I got the last number that was left and it was number two. I got the jump again on the start and I just kind of took off from there." The race was trimmed to 20 laps as it exceeded the allotted time limit, but once again Grosz led the feature race wire to wire as he claimed his ninth career UMSS victory and third career win at Cedar Lake. Up next for the Lee Grosz Racing team will be a couple dates at two of Lee's home tracks. Saturday night will take them to Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN, followed by a Sunday evening show at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Both events are sanctioned by the NOSA 410 Sprints. "I always look forward to racing with those guys," continued Lee. "On these smaller tracks I don't think it's a huge disadvantage to have a 360. Usually come feature time the track is slick, which evens up the playing field. It's always a tough group to race against, though. They have a lot of good drivers."
