By Mike Spieker HARWOOD, ND (September 14, 2016) - Coming off a solid run at the AGCO Jackson Nationals, Lee Grosz and the Hi-10 Sport Center team scored a third place finish at Princeton Speedway with the UMSS Sprints. In preliminary action Lee started second in his heat race and picked up the win. He then rolled off seventh in the challenge race before taking the checkers in second.
“In the feature we started third and fell back to sixth right away,” said Lee. “We fought our way back up to third and that’s where we ended up. We were probably a third place car. We weren’t the best in the feature, but we weren’t terrible. A third place finish is nothing to be disappointed about.” Lee chased Chris Graf and Brooke Tatnell to the checkered flag. On Saturday night the team made the trek to New Richmond, WI for their third appearance of the season at Cedar Lake Speedway. Expectations were high coming into the UMSS-sanctioned event as Lee swept both features over the Fourth of July weekend. The driver of the Wesmar Racing Engines #4J drove from seventh to third in his heat and raced to a fourth place finish in the challenge race. That put Grosz third on the starting grid for the 16th Annual Jerry Richert Sr Memorial main event. “We definitely had some high hopes after how we did at Cedar Lake earlier in the year,” continued Lee. “We got up to second with about six to go and were getting into some pretty heavy lapped traffic. I was just starting to reel in Carson [McCarl] for the lead when something broke going into turn three. I hit the wall, spun around in the air a couple times and stuck the nose in the ground pretty hard and that was the end of our night.” Lee climbed out of the car uninjured, but unfortunately the car was junked. As a result, Lee’s 2016 season has come to a close. He ends the year with a top five finish percentage over 50% with 13 finishes of fifth or better in 24 races. He also recorded four wins and 16 top 10’s to go on top of that.
