By Mike Spieker HARWOOD, ND (July 19) - After having to hit the road each and every weekend since the 2016 race season started back in late March, Lee Grosz and the HI-10 Sports team finally had a pair of races scheduled right in their backyard Both races slated for the weekend were sanctioned by the NOSA 410 Sprints. Despite running a smaller 360c.i. engine, Grosz came into the weekend with confidence and momentum after sweeping the double-header at Cedar Lake last Friday and Saturday. Grosz has one NOSA win in his career, which came on July 10th, 2014 at the three-eighths mile of Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. The weekend began Saturday night at Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, MN where Lee started third in heat race number three. At the completion of the 10-lap affair, Grosz finished where he started, which lined up him back in 12th for the 25-lap, 24-car main event. “We didn’t do every good in our heat and had to start 12th in the feature,” said Grosz. “I got up to sixth at one point and got into lapped traffic. I got stuck behind a few cars and I decided I better try the top or middle. I went to the top and slid off the track in turn two and ended up 10th. Overall it was a good night and the car was in one piece.” Sunday night was the highly anticipated return of Sprint Cars to the newly revived Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Located just 10 miles from Harwood, the three-eighths mile oval is Lee’s home track, but Lee hadn’t turned a lap at the track since it closed in 2012. Grosz started fifth in what was a stacked 11-car heat race that included former series champions, Austin Pierce and Casey Mack, as well as the always tough Dusty Zomer. Once the green flew, however, Lee made his way to the front and picked up the heat race win. The redraw placed Lee sixth on the starting grid. Once again Lee moved forward during the A-main and had a shot at the lead at the midpoint of the race. “I got up to third and everyone was on the bottom so I figured I might as well try something up top,” continued Lee. “Luckily there was some good moisture in turns three and four and I started to get my momentum up, but the yellow came out and kind of killed that.” Lee momentarily challenged for the lead on the restart, but didn’t quite have enough to complete the pass. “I thought if I could get by those guys right away up top and get back to the bottom I might be able to hang on, but that top went away pretty quick. We came away with a third place finish and you can’t complain about that.” This coming weekend the Lee Grosz Racing team will hit the road once again as they begin to prepare for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Nationals with a return to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday night.
